When Mrs. Carson reappears wearing an exposed robe and provocative underwear, Adam is first perplexed as to what James is trying to say and then shocked. James clarifies that he and his former friend had frequent intercourse with Mrs. Carson, and it is clear that he intends to carry on the custom with Adam. Mrs. Eager to join in on the fun, Carson approaches them and tries to win Adam over. Adam tries to avoid temptation even though he appears to be drawn in. He pledges to stay silent unless questioned, but he also says he won't take part. As Adam anxiously waits close by, James appears content with this and enchants Mrs. Carson. Adam attempts to resist temptation, but he can't help but notice them as he starts to become aroused. Mrs. Carson invites them to join her after noticing his inquisitive glances.
